Our clinic staff, or your Local Management Centre optometrist, will take time to explain the procedure and its pros and cons, discuss your predicted results and answer all of your questions. If you wish to proceed, an appointment will be made to assess your suitability for treatment.
The treatment itself takes place at the Advance VisionCare Clinic in Harley Street, although the initial assessment and aftercare may be carried out locally, with one of our highly experienced and skilled optometrist partners. To ensure you are suitable for treatment you will have to undergo an extensive session of diagnostic tests. Our expert staff will then discuss the test results with you and decide if you are suitable and, if so, you will be invited to book your treatment.
The Orbscan anterior segment analysis system measures the shape of the cornea and allows the surgeon to determine if you are suitable for laser eye treatment. It is vital to check whether your cornea is thick enough for Zyoptix. If you wear contact lenses, you may need to manage without them for up to 4 weeks prior to the suitability consultation (depending on the type of lenses), to eliminate any corneal swelling from the lenses and to make sure the surgeon can get an accurate measurement.
ZywaveT aberrometer wavefront technology takes detailed measurements of your eyes' optics. A drop is put into each eye, opening up the pupils to ensure all necessary information is recorded. After this test, a drop will be applied to allow your pupils to return to their usual size.
To ensure your prescription is suitable for treatment, your vision will be re-tested. People with large pupils who have had laser eye surgery often complain of haloes and glare. The surgeon will determine if your pupils are the right size and fall into the right parameters to prevent this from occurring.
You will be checked to see if your eyes are healthy. This will include measuring your intraocular pressure and examining your corneas and retinas. Your surgeon may ask you and/or your GP about your health, as certain diseases mean that laser treatment cannot be done.
