"Like most people the thought of Laser Eye Surgery scared and excited me in equal measures. As a professional rugby player I knew benefits could be huge with no more lost contact lenses during training or games, but the potential downsides made me very wary. The changing point for me was meeting Dr Pillai and his team at Advance Vision Care, they oozed competence and confidence and having researched Mr. P as he's affectionately known by his team I knew I was dealing with someone at the top of his profession. This feeling was born out by my experience before, during and after the surgery. AVC's willingness to explain all aspects of the surgery in a matter fact way meant that I understood the risks and felt able to make a fully informed decision. The surgery itself took 20 minutes and I think was more painful for my wife to watch from a special room at the side of the surgery, than it was for me on the bed. The best bit for me was, 10 minutes after the surgery when I took an eye test and although my vision was a little blurry I'd already achieved the British driving standard! My eyesight improved steadily from the surgery and the only discomfort I had during my recovery was like the feeling of having a bit of dust in my eyes which lasted for about ten days. At my six week check up I was delighted to find out that I had achieved 20/20 vision and that my eyesight would be as good as before the surgery with contact lenses! I'm often asked now if I have any advice for people consider Laser eye surgery and what I tell them is to find the best surgeon and team they can (for me that was Dr Pillai and his team at Advance Vision Care) and not to put it off for too long, I wish I'd done it years ago."
